PLYMOUTH — The Marshfield man accused of firing a shot that narrowly missed a couple and their sleeping child has been released subject to a set of restrictions.
Following a two-day dangerousness hearing in Plymouth District Court, Judge Lisa Edmonds found Sean P. Curtis, 25, to be dangerous, but allowed him be released to the custody of his parents and required him to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, said Beth Stone, a spokeswoman for Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Edmonds also ordered Curtis; who lives at 1 Castle Green, Apt. 3; to stay away from the Castle Green Apartments and the residences of all victims and witnesses in the case, Stone said.
He must also remain employed and is subject to a 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. curfew. Curtis must also remain drug- and alcohol-free with frequent testing and no firearms are allowed in his residence.
Marshfield Police said Curtis got into a confrontation with two men and a woman at the Venus II restaurant in Brant Rock. It moved cross town to the parking lot of the Castle Green apartments, where Curtis and at least one of the other men lived.
At one point, Curtis went inside and came back with a gun. Police said he fired a single shot.
The bullet went into the ground floor apartment of Maria Bermejo and her husband, and went into the wall just three feet above where their four-month-old son was sleeping.
Police said Curtis freely admitted discharging the firearm into the ground in self-defense.
The two men and the woman involved in the confrontation refused to give written statements to police, according to court documents.
While Curtis could not provide a firearms identification card or a license to carry firearms, police said he did have an active license issued by Marshfield Police. Police have since suspended Curtis’ license to carry.
A neighbor said Curtis was yelling that the two men were “swinging” at him and he needed to defend himself.
Curtis was found with a firearm and three loose rounds of ammunition.
He was held without bail pending the outcome of the hearing.
Curtis is charged with carrying a firearm while drunk, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a firearm without a license, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious and wanton damage to property, making false statements on a firearms application, vandalizing property, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.
